Geografía La ciudad está situada en el valle al que da nombre, un valle interior de la Altiplanicie Mexicana septentrional rodeado por algunas elevaciones y cadenas montañosas pertenecientes a la Sierra Madre Oriental. Es el caso de la sierra de Zapalinamé, cuyos arroyos y acuíferos constituyen el abastacemiento principal de aguas a la ciudad. Otros pequeños arroyos estacionales riegan Saltillo y su término.
